Artist-In-Residence Program

at El Zaguán

on Canyon Road

   

 

Five apartments (three one-bedroom, one two-bedroom and one efficiency) are available for rent to Artists and/or Writers in this historic home of James L. Johnson also known as El Zaguán. The property has beautiful historic gardens and contains a Gallery. Both are available to the Artists.

The leases are written for one year and have an option to renew for one year. A maximum of three years residency is allowed. The current rents range from $625/month, plus electric to $1,200/month, plus electric. The apartments have kiva fireplaces, claw-foot tubs, kitchens and a multitude of historical details. Parking and laundry are available.

This historic home is also the home of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation and residents will be asked to join the community effort and general good support of the respect of historic preservation.

An applicant for one of the Artist-In-Residence apartments must be a working artist or writer. You will be required to submit an artist statement, biography and samples of your work. An Artist-In-Residence must be enthusiastic about participating in the activities and benefits of the community of artists living at El Zaguán.

To be considered for this apartment the prospective tenant must be a working artist or writer. Samples of work and a C.V. will be required in addition to completing an application. All Applications will be considered by agents of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation and the new tenant selected as best fits the Foundation's goals. The new tenant must also be willing and happy to participate in the artist's community of 5 working artists living at El Zaguán. Residency is reviewed on a yearly basis, with tenants required to write brief essays on what they've accomplished during the year and to supply copies of their most current work. Leases can be renewed by mutual consent of tenant and Historic Santa Fe Foundation. A maximum of three years residency is allowed.
