The García House is a typical vernacular nineteenth-century house in the Barrio de Guadalupe. The home passed down through the Vicente García family and adhered to the local tradition of adding rooms to residences linearly, as needed. The property remained in the Garcia family until 1927. The property conforms to the style and characteristics of a pre-1900 dwelling in Santa Fe. Unlike the Donaciano Vigil House, its contiguous neighbor to the east, the García House escaped major alteration by twentieth-century Anglo-American owners and has retained much of the character of the local historic architecture, including its form and its small-scale door and window openings.
