ABOUT THE EXHIBITION AND BOOK
Mark your calendars for March 7, 2025, as Santa Fe welcomes a groundbreaking literary event: the launch of New York Times bestseller author Dominic Cappello's poignant and powerful memoir, The Traumatized Doctor's Diary: Stories of Saving Oneself and the World.
This extraordinary book offers readers an intimate glimpse into the life of a man who set out to heal the world but first had to navigate the treacherous waters of his own traumatic childhood. Through a series of captivating chapters, Cappello takes us on a seven-decade journey of personal growth, societal change, and the relentless pursuit of healing – both for himself and for the world around him.
The Traumatized Doctor's Diary is not just a memoir; it's a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of purpose. Cappello's narrative and illustrations weave together personal anecdotes, societal observations, and profound insights, creating a tapestry that reflects the complexities of life in a world that is both traumatized and traumatizing.
From the innocence of childhood in "The Bear in the Woods" to the broadening horizons of "School Expands My World," and his college job as Capt. Hook at Disneyland, readers will follow Cappello's evolution from a wide-eyed dreamer to a seasoned change agent. The book doesn't shy away from the challenges of "Adulthood Thrust" upon him or the ambitious pursuits of "World Dom-ination."
As the narrative unfolds, Cappello shares his experiences of "Reentering an Empire in Decline" and the surreal moment "When Oprah Calls." His journey takes unexpected turns in "The City Different" and poses the intriguing question, "Is There a Dr (Dom) in the House?" The book culminates with “Feliz Domingo," reflecting on legacy and the author's enduring impact on the world he set out to heal.
What sets The Traumatized Doctor's Diary apart is not just its compelling narrative, but also its visual artistry. Cappello, a multi-talented creator, has illustrated the book with his own artwork, adding a rich, visual dimension to his storytelling. These images serve as windows into Cappello's psyche, offering readers a deeper understanding of his experiences and emotions.
With candor and compassion, Cappello fictionalizes certain characters and family situations, respecting the privacy of those who have played roles in his life while maintaining the authenticity of his personal journey. This approach allows readers to connect with the universal themes of trauma, resilience, and healing that resonate throughout the book.
The Traumatized Doctor's Diary is more than just a memoir; it's an invitation to reflect on our own journeys of healing and growth. It challenges us to consider how we, too, can contribute to healing ourselves and the world around us. Cappello's story serves as an inspiration for anyone who has faced adversity and dared to dream of making a difference.
The book launch event in Santa Fe promises to be a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the enduring human spirit. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Dominic Cappello, hear him speak about his extraordinary journey, and get their copies of The Traumatized Doctor's Diary signed.
Whether you're a book or art lover, a social change advocate, or simply someone interested in stories of personal transformation, The Traumatized Doctor's Diary offers something for everyone. It's a reminder that even in our most challenging moments, there is hope for healing and the potential to create positive change.
