ABOUT THE TOUR

The Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) is excited to announce a walking tour of Santa Fe's historic Fairview Cemetery, guided by archaeologist Dr. Alysia L. Abbott. This tour will delve into the cemetery's history and the notable individuals interred there. Participants will learn about the archaeological methods used to uncover these histories, how the cemetery illustrates Santa Fe's evolution from a Spanish Colonial outpost to its status as a Territorial Capital, and the concept of mortuary equality during the Territorial era in Santa Fe.

Fairview Cemetery: A Postmortem Melting Pot
Fairview Cemetery holds the mortal remains of many of Santa Fe’s most prosperous citizens and community leaders from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Fairview is also the resting place of the indigent and the unknown who lived and died in Santa Fe for decades. Walk past the carefully constructed family mausoleums and elaborate monuments of Catrons, Spiegelbergs, Oteros, and Staabs, alongside the unmarked graves of Santa Fe’s unknown and unclaimed dead.

Additional Information
This two-hour tour will begin at Fairview Cemetery. Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Price per person is $55 for members and $65 for non-members.

On this walking tour, you may encounter walking on uneven surfaces, longer standing and walking periods, various terrains, unpaved areas, trip hazards such as uneven ground, sunken graves, and loose stones. Many cemeteries have areas where the soil has settled, creating potential pitfalls. Please watch your step.

Cancellation Policy
A full refund for the tour only will be given if canceled on or before October 7, 2024. After that date, a no refunds will be given for reservations for the tour. Participant(s) will be issued a tax-donation for the amount retained at the foundation.
