ABOUT THE TOUR
Couse-Sharp’s 2+ acre campus in the heart of Taos’ central historic district features the former homes and studios of E. I. Couse and J. H. Sharp, two of the American-born, European-trained artists who formed the TSA in 1915. Visitors are astonished that such a well-preserved—and charming—complex of period buildings, gardens, furnishings, and associated art collections still exists. Engineering enthusiasts can see a 1936 laboratory and machine shop plus a Kibbey Couse-invented mobile machine shop used in World War II. The historic sites’s latest addition is The Lunder Research Center, a beautiful state-of-the-art research and museum facility dedicated to the early Taos art colony and the TSA. Tour participants will get a feel for the amazing range of history, culture, architecture, science, and art at the Couse-Sharp Historic Site.

Following this visit, participants will proceed to the Hacienda de los Martinez, a historic adobe structure that served as a trading post and residence for the Martinez family in the early 19th century. This hacienda is an excellent example of Spanish colonial architecture and offers a glimpse into life during that era in Taos. Tour participants can wander through its rooms filled with period furnishings and artifacts, gaining an understanding of the cultural exchanges that occurred in this vibrant community.

By visiting both the Couse-Sharp Historic Site and the Hacienda de los Martinez, participants gain a nuanced understanding of Taos' multifaceted history and its enduring importance in New Mexico's cultural landscape.

A full refund for the tour only will be given if canceled on or before October 1, 2024. After that date, a no refunds will be given for reservations for the tour. Participant(s) will be issued a tax-donation for the amount retained at the foundation.
